Château de Rochegude, Rochegude
Enjoy the atmosphere worthy of a Prince under the sky of Provence.
This magnificent 12th century fortress, once the summer residence of the Marquis de Rochegude, towers majestically above the Côtes-du-Rhône.
Its sumptuously furnished air-conditioned rooms offer superb views on the vineyards. Unwind in the green haven of its 25-acre park, recline by the pool or enjoy a tennis game. Delicious meals, served in the medieval armoury, are enhanced by the finest regional wines.
The Château de Rochegude is located in the heart of a region known as the Drôme Provençale, the northern section of Provence famous for its wines, its fruits and produce, and the gourmet's delight, the truffle. The region retains its rural character, unspoiled by extensive commercial development and high-rise buildings.
The Château dominates a hilltop overlooking the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône Villages. Though settled in the middle of the countryside, the Château is only 8 kilometers (5 miles) from exit of the A7 Motorway at Bollène, and 13 kilometers (8 miles) from the historic city of Orange.
The charming village surrounding the Château has preserved its ancient buildings of yellow Provençale stone with their traditional tiled roofs. There are several classed monuments besides the Château, including the Chapel of St. Denis, dating from the 16th century, the fountain and washing basin by the Mairie (city hall), and the grand statue of Notre Dame de la Garde looking down over the village.
Within minutes from the Château are a broad array of sites of interest to tourists, gourmets, wine-lovers, and sportsmen. Romans ruins, museums and art galleries, the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, vineyards and tasting rooms from Hermitage to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, hiking trails and cycling routes, the Gorges of the Ardèche, antique shopping in the markets of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, are all nearby.
The hotel facilities of the Château de Rochegude are befitting of its 4-star de-luxe rating and status as a founding member of the Chateaux & Hotels de France chain, entirely air-conditioned and maintained to the highest standards.
All guest rooms feature luxurious private baths, satellite TV, mini-bar, and individually controlled air conditioning and heating. Several rooms have private terraces and many, especially in the Superior category, retain the details and grand dimensions of the era of the Marquis de Rochegude. Guest comfort is the Château's highest priority, and services include daily change of all linens and evening turndown service.
