Gounod, Saint Rémy de Provence
At this renovated, stylish hotel, in the heart of Saint Rémy de Provence, the great composer Charles Gounod wrote his Mireille opera.
Although all the hotel's rooms are unique, every one is decorated in a tasteful, cultivated manner, bristling with sophistication.
Having explored the beautiful scenery surrounding the town, stunning enough for Van Gogh to have painted over a hundred portraits of the area, you can enjoy the sun on the deckchairs next to the hotel's charming outdoor swimming pool.
It is the perfect place to stay for romantic holidays.
Centre d'Art Présence Van Gogh (gallery) (0.4 km) - Van Gogh produced more than 150 paintings of the countryside surrounding Saint Rémy. Here, periodically, you can see some reproductions of his work and exhibitions by contemporary artists.
L'Arc de Triomphe and the Mausolée des Jules (4 km) - known collectively as 'les antiques' these are some of the most significant Roman remains in France. The Roman city of Glanum once stood here.
Avignon (20 km) - see the Palais des Papes, one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe.
Gounod wrote his opera here, in this former posting station, in 1863.
The entire hotel is non-smoking.
Food and Beverage:
The En Attendant Gounod tearoom is open daily between 07:00 and 19:00. Here you can enjoy fresh home made cakes, tarts and ice creams, made from the finest local ingredients.
