Forte De São João Da Barra, Cabanas De Tavira (Tavira - Algarve)

Just 100 metres from Cabanas, this star-shaped fort was built in the 17th century and now acts as an environmentally friendly guest house with a twist.

Originally built to prevent an attack on Tavira's port, Forte De São João Da Barra includes 10 unique guest rooms. Start the day with a swim in the outdoor pool, located in the north-eastern bastion and finished with local stones.

Sea views can be admired while having breakfast outside. Breakfast is the only meal available at Forte De São João Da Barra. Alternatively, breakfast can be taken in the breakfast room, which is located in the vaulted ceiling chapel in the former governor's house.
